 Comedy It's The Greatest College Tradition Of Them All |
ROAD TRIP is a movie geared towards the younger college crowd but as an adult I would
have to say that I still enjoyed the humour. It is a vulgar piece of film that is rife with scenes to make
you laugh out loud. Leave the kids behind for this one if scenes of sexual activity make you feel
uncomfortable.When you are in a committed relationship but live in different area codes, is it okay to have sex with someone else? The story begins at the University of Ithaca with Barry Manilow (Tom Green) giving a giuded tour of the facility. He tells the future students a tale of Josh (Breckin Meyer) and Tiffany (Rachel Blanchard). A couple who have known each other since they were 10 years old. After high school Tiffany heads off to Vet school in Austin, Texas but Josh stays at Ithaca University. They carry on a long distance relationship. Josh is tempted by another girl named Beth (Amy Smart). They make love but Beth decided to tape it. Now the tape, through a series of accidents ends up in the mail on it's way to Tiffany in Texas. How to stop her from receiving it requires that time honoured college tradiation...the road trip. Josh, Rubin, E.L. and Kyle take off together in Kyle's car on their road trip. Barry stays behid, yes he is in the story as well as telling it. Of course a great deal of the gross humour of this film is performed by Tom Green. Barry has a fascination with Josh's boa who he likes to feed. This leads to to some hysterical scenes with the boa's dinner...the white mice. The guy's must cover 1800 miles in 3 days to stop the video before it gets to Tiffany. Beth finds out that Josh has a girl friend named Tiffany and decides to tell her about her and Josh but through bad directions by Barry she ends up destroying the wrong Tiffany's relationship in a different city. Meanwhile due to a full credit card and Kyle's destroyed car (great bridge sequence here) Kyle's father, Earl Edwards (played by Fred Ward) suspects his son has been kidnapped and goes on the hunt to save his son. Meanwhile his quiet, shy son is slowly becoming a man during the trip. Through all their trials they manage to get there in time only to...nah if I say more he it will spoil the story. Needles to say many comedic situations occur on the road and back at Ithaca. Some of the funny scenes occur at a sperm bank, a black sorority, and in Josh's room with the snake. Will the boy gets the girl; the right girl? Will Barry manage to feed the boa? Will Kyle stand up to his dad? Will you be spitting out popcorn from your mouth because of the laughs? Will you compare this movie to ANIMAL HOUSE because the same director, Ivan Reitman directed it? Will your money be well spent? Only you can answer these questions when you see ROAD TRIP. |
