This is probably the best David Spade movie that I have seen since he worked with the late Chris Farley. Aside from
the plentiful sexual innuendos, scattered about, the movie can be enjoyed by everyone in the family. When I saw the movie I
was pretty tired. Laughing, when I am in that condition, is something I do not do easily, so when I do It must be funny. If you
want a night (or day) of just laughs and pathos then this is definitely the movie to see. If you are looking for high art than skip
this one and go see CHOCOLAT instead. If you do
decide to go see JOE DIRT then try not to spill your popcorn on the patron, in front of you, while laughing.
"Naming you that, your daddy must have really hated you."
Hollywood
Joe Dirt is a janitor at a radio station. He is treated with very little, if any respect by anyone. People think of him as white trash
but he is certain that as long as he is a good person everything will turn out okay. Joe is introduced to Zander Kelly, a morning
shock jock played by Dennis Miller. Zander figures Joe will be a good brunt of his jokes so Zander allows Joe to tell
his life story on the air.
"Is this what you want to do when Jesus comes back; making fun of Joe Dirt?"br>
Zander lets Joe tell his story which he interrupts with lots of zingers but to his amazement, he finds that he is beginnig to
sympathize with Joe's predictament. The audience does as well. Joe is invited back day after to day to tell of his adventures in
his quest to find his parents. You see back on June 14, 1979, when Joe was only 11 years old he was lost during a family outing at the
Grand Canyon. Alone and abandoned he ends up in countless foster homes. As he grew up he bacame accustomed to the
countless onslaughts of insults hurdled at him because of his hair and his entire life. Joe kept a positive attitude throughout it
all and one day he decides to go on a journey to find his parents.
"Right on. You're Joe Meteorite and I'm Joe Dirt."br>
Joe loves his rock music and super cars, cars he can't afford. along the way be picks up a souped up car, as well as many
friends, good and bad. One night, while wishing on a shooting star a meteorite falls from the sky in front of him. He takes it to a
town where he hopes to make some money from the sale of this heavenly object. This leads Joe to a country house where he
aids a poor dog in a really funny but sad situation. Heck, I felt bad laughing at the dog's predictament but it was funny. Pain and
humour have always worked as a comedic device. This situation leads to him meeting the farmer's young daughter, Brandy
played by Brittany Daniel.
"You're teling me you'd rather have a dog instead of a frozen piece of crap?"br>
Brandy lives with her often inebriated father, Don played by Joe Don Baker and of course her dog Charlie. Joe over the
years becomes a part of the family as well and falls in love with Brandy, who has developed into a strapping young woman.
Unfortunately, a young town punk also has his eyes on Brandy. Robby (Kid Rock), and his pals hassle Joe whenever
possible.
"Charlie is okay now. He's in dog heaven."br>
One day the drunk father, Don goes out hunting with Charlie. When Don gets his foot stuck in a train track switcher rail he sends
Charlie to get help. Unfortunately Charlie gets sidetracked by a little sex with a a female dog he meets and of course forgets all
about Don. A one legged Don ereturns home and needless to say he is somewhat miffed and Charlie pays the price. Tired of the
constant harrassement from Robby and Joe's desire to find his parents, Joe takes Charlie's ashes and tells Brandy he will return
to her. Brandy gives him some parting information, that his real last name is not Dirt.
"You wanna fight? Why don't you stick your head up my butt and fight for air."br>
He continues his adventures in a hot air balloon shaped like a tooth. Joe ends up in North Dakota working on an oil rig until he
makes $360 to buy a car. He travels to New Mexico where he gets involved with Kicking Wing, an Indian tracker played by Adam
Beach. There are some very interesting effects and adventures with these two. These adventures give David Spade a chance to
use his rapid speech and wit to best advantage. He does an excellent job.
"You are an under achievement nexus, Joe."br>
Zander and his listeners quickly become mesmerized by all of Joe's adventures and his incredible optimizism. Everday listeners
gather in droves to listen to the further adventures of Joe Dirt and his quest for his parents. To help him on his quest Joe carries
around not only optimizism but a picture of Brandy whom he tells the audience is the one he loves. During his adventures he comes
across Buffalo Bob a pervert who holds him captive until he is saved by the police. Through this situation he is given a picture
with clues. He ends up in Lousianna where he meets Clem. Christopher Walken does a great job as Clem. These are
some great sequences. Joe also meets a beds a woman who ends up being his sister or is it? He ends up working in an
alligator farm doing shows for tourists. After an incident with an alligator his memory is stirred and he remembers his real last name.
"Home is where you make it."br>
He eventually finds his home. Will he find his parents? Will he get back together with Brandy? Did Charlie sire a brood?
Is Brandy getting married? Will Joe Dirt decide to end it all by jumping off a bridge? Will it all end happily? Questions
that you can have answers to by going to see JOE DIRT.
"This next song goes out to our good friend, Joe Dirt.."br>
Besides the fun you will be treated to while viewing JOE DIRT, you will also hear some excellent music from Bob Segar,
The Mathew Good Band, George Thurogood, Van Halen and many more. This is a quintessential classic rock soundtrack to
pick up when it comes out on vinyl...oops...(vinyl what's that?)...cd. Enjoy, I did.
"Other then you dig looking like Jane Fonda in Klute, why not cut your hair, now."
Oh yeah about that hair style Joe sports, that is an interesting story in itself. See the movie because I am not going to tell you about the
hair. Hey there has to be the occassional mystery.
"Life is like a garden, dig it."
