I think that anyone who has lost a parent or family member would wish they could speak to the
departed after their death. Spiritualism, no not in this movie. FREQUENCY allows a
father and son to converse through time. A solar flare that occurs in two different time periods
30 years apart affects the lives of two men but they inadvertently destroy the lives of others.
There has always been a warning attached to ideas about time travel and this one does also have
a warning. You try to change the past and the consequences will not nessecarilly be to your
liking. Many people have speculated what would happen if someone went back in time and eliminated
the threats of certain individuals. The interesting thing about this would be that the timeline would
change and we would not even no there was a difference. We could not remember what we never
experienced. John Sullivan played by Jim Caviezel, unfortunately does remember what has
changed in the timeline and that is not a pleasant thing since he now has to live witht the consequences
of his actions and no one will believe him.
Okay let us wander back here in time, 30 years into the past. The year is 1969 and Frank Sullivan
(Dennis Quaid) is about to have his entire life changed. Massive solar flares are affecting the
earth and they in passing will affect Frank's life, his wifes and 11 year old son, John. Frank is a fireman
and the following day he is going to die in a rescue attempt. That night he goes on to his ham radio and
his life would change. Thirty years in the future, John is going through the tragic events that shaped his
life after his father died. He can't seem to keep personal relationships but he is a very good cop who is
on a search to discover an old serial killer. That night solar flares appear again. He has pulled out his
father's old ham radio for his friend's son to see. Later that evening he receives a signal, one that
would change everything. The two speak and soon realize that they are father and son, speaking
through time, courtesy of "the mother of all sunspots". Disbelief is turned to belief as something
changes for them through an action the father takes that affects the son at the same time. John warns
his father of his death in the fire and tells him where the fire occurs. He warns him to use a different
escape route. Frank survives and now everyone in John's timeline believes that Frank died much later
of lung cancer from his smoking.
An old murdered body is found, that reveals that the serial kjiller, John is looking for goes back 30
years. John enlists Frank's help to save the girl. The girl lives but unfortunately someone else takes
her place. As john looks at pictures of his family...his mother slowly fades out of the picture...she is
the new victim. Frank must now find a way to find the killer and save his wife.
If I go into this story too much more it will give away too many surprises that are best discovered as
the story unravels on the screen. This is an excellent film that teaches us that all actions have
consequences. Two men and one ham radio set will decide the lives of many.
The theories of multiverses is fairly new but this film will make you think about the possiblities.
Everyday we make decisions that decide what happens in our lives. Do we take one road or the other?
Whatever we decide will affect not only your life but those of others. The universe is a strange place with
many mysteries and here is one.
By the way, this film has an excellent ending with lots of interesting surprises, so catch it as soon as
you can, you will not regret it. It will leave you thinking of what you would do in the same situation.
Dennis Quaid who is not seen too often lately does a wonderful job of portraying Frank Sullivan.
The 60's music sountrack is excellent as well. By the way does that popcorn taste good?
A good movie makes it taste better doesn't it?
