Fantasy
One dinosaur shall lead them.

Walt Disney's DINOSAUR takes us on a magical trip back to the late Cretaceous Period, 65 million years ago. The computer graphics employed for this film give us a photo-realistic prehistoric world that we can only marvel at. It shows us a journey of survival. It is an action filled journey which shows us the beginning of a great leader, a three ton Iguanodan named Aladar.

Like many out there, I find it so hard to wrap my head around the idea of these wonderous, monsterous beasts living for so long. Man has only been here for a few thousand years, yet the dinosaur in one form or another were around for millions of years. I think maybe we do not even are capable of comprending what that much time is like. We may never know just how intelligent they were. For the purpose of this story dinosaurs can think, speak, love, be compassionate and loyal. After a few minutes of hearing them talk you will find it easy to accept so you can sit back and enjoy the life like creations on the big screen. These creatures show the state of the art capability of modern computer graphics. They have created living, breathing creatues from the past that will amaze you. Even though these dinosaurs are slightly humourous, they are far superiour to those in JURASSIC PARK.

The story starts with a nesting ground of Iguanodons that is attacked by a Carnotaur. One egg survives but it is quickly scooped up by a giant hen like scavenger. it eventually is sent on a journey through rivers and into the sky and across the sea to a remote island. There the egg falls to the ground and as it hatches it is found by a clan of Lemurs. Aladar is raised by the Lemurs in their ways. They play, love and eat vegetation only. Life goes on for a long time without any problems until during a mating period, a devastating meteor storm destroys and kills virtually all his friends. He saves his immediate family and friends by diving into the sea to escape a fierce blast. Once in the water they can only make it to the mainland, a place of danger. The water scenes are so incredibly done that it looks as real as any real water scene. It was really amazing to watch this scene.

The land is scorched and dry but soon they are set upon by raptor like predators, only to be rescued by a ragtag group of mixed dinosaurs led by Kron a powerful Iguanodan. He and Bruton are hard leaders and believe only the strong should survive so they have little regard for the sick and old among them. They are on the quest to reach their nesting ground where water and food will be plentiful. Unfortunately, two Carnotaurs are on their trail picking at the dead and waiting for an opportunity to kill the group.

During their journey Aladar forms a relationship with Neera a female Iguanodan, who slowly comes to accept his kind ways. Unfortunately Neera is the sister of Kron who has grown to distrust and hate Aladar. In one scene the look on Kron's face shows such movement that it will make you believe for that instance that these on screen creations are flesh and blood. Kron's march for survival has no place for Eema, an old Styrachosaur; Baylene, an old tired Brachiosaur; Url an Ankylosaur and host of other small reptiles. Kron has no patience for them and they get left behind with only Aladar to lead them.

Aladar offers tehm hope and pushes them on with promises of finding the nesting ground. They have to run and hide as Carnotaurs follow them. Bruton, who has been wounded, helps them escape. We come to a wonderful climax with a great battle scene thatwill dictate the survival of these creatures.

"We can only hope, in some small way, our journey will be remembered."

Once you see this wonderful feature you will remember the journey. Take the family they will love it. If you worry about killing, then relax. Any killing is done off screen or obscured by clouds of dust. This is one film that will probably excite the young ones enough to maybe search out some books to learn more about DINOSAURS. Oh yes, for some of you out there, you will recognize the stylized dinosaur visuals of Ricardo Delgado. This is a treat for artists as Delgado has turned out some of the best dinosaur drawings around. If you ever get a chance to read his illustrated comic series, Age of Reptiles : Tribal Warfare then scoop it up. If you want to order this book click on the title, Age of Reptiles : Tribal Warfare
